Hi, I'm Jay — the teacher behind Spanish That Clicks. I'm a former IB Spanish examiner with more than 23 years teaching Spanish at every level, from high school programs through IB and post-secondary courses. Over the years, I've noticed something important:

Most students aren't "bad at Spanish." They're usually just one clear explanation away from everything finally clicking.

That belief is the foundation of Spanish That Clicks.

My goal is to make Spanish feel understandable, practical, and confidence-building — not overwhelming. I specialize in personalized virtual tutoring that improves speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and overall confidence.

Unlike generic tutoring programs, every session is tailored to the student. Some need help organizing their thoughts for IB writing. Others need stronger listening strategies, clearer grammar explanations, or simply someone who explains things in a way that finally makes sense.

I focus on:

  • IB Spanish preparation (from a former examiner's perspective)

  • High school and AP Spanish support

  • Speaking confidence

  • Grammar that actually makes sense

  • Real strategies that improve grades and fluency

My teaching style is calm, encouraging, and direct. Students learn best when they feel supported, challenged, and understood — not judged.

Whether you're raising a grade, preparing for an exam, or finally trying to feel confident speaking, I'm here to help make Spanish click.

What Does a Session Look Like? Before your first session, you'll fill out a quick intake form sharing your current level, what you're working on in class, and your exam timeline. That way every session starts with a clear goal — no time wasted. I also use it to identify your ACTFL proficiency level.

Sessions run over Zoom. You'll get a link ahead of time — no special software needed.

The session itself (60 min) opens with a quick check-in: what's coming up, what felt hard since last time. Then we get to work, which might look like:

  • Reading a Paper 2 text together and breaking down how to annotate and respond to it

  • Working through a grammar structure like the subjunctive or si clauses in real conversation, not just worksheets

  • Running a mock oral with immediate, specific feedback

  • Writing a formal letter or essay with live coaching on structure, register, and vocabulary

The style is conversational, not lecture-style — you'll be speaking Spanish, not just listening.

At the end, you'll get a quick summary of what you worked on and one small, focused task to practice before next time. Nothing overwhelming — just enough to keep momentum.

Everything is shared on screen in real time: annotated texts, grammar reference sheets, past exam questions. Screenshot or save anything useful.

The whole experience is built around your specific needs, weak spots, and timeline — not a generic curriculum. For IB students, that's the difference between a tutor who knows Spanish and one who knows IB Spanish.
